Hiking across Ireland, one anxious step at a time, for Mental Health Ireland.
Mental Health Ireland is an organization that helps people such as myself. It is a national voluntary organisation which was established in 1966 as the Mental Health Association of Ireland. MHI’s aim is to promote positive mental health and wellbeing to all individuals and communities in Ireland. They have a network of 92 Mental Health Associations throughout the country, all led by volunteers. Their Mental Health Associations fundraise to organise outings and events for those struggling with mental health in their communities. Furthermore, as an organisation they are doing all they can to help vanquish the stigmas surrounding mental health. The stigmas are many and it’s my goal to be a part of putting an end to them. The state of ones mental health should never be a point a shame!
A large part of my recovery was being active outdoors – pushing myself physically. In the mountains, my anxiety quiets down to a low whisper and my heart beats steadily. So what better way to fundraise for MHI than by pushing myself past my limits, physically and mentally by hiking across a country?!
